Redirect analytics begins with a request to a managed short link. Useful fields can include time, link, routing result, broad location, device category, referrer context and traffic classification, but collection should be limited to a declared measurement purpose.
Plan before publishing
DrutoLink is designed to estimate repeat activity without storing raw IP addresses in click records. Privacy-conscious request signals can reduce obvious repeats, yet they remain probabilistic and should not be presented as durable identities or exact people counts.
- Collect only fields tied to a documented question.
- Label unique counts as estimates.
- Keep secrets and personal data out of URLs.
Build and test the workflow
A person changing device or network may appear more than once; several people behind shared infrastructure may be grouped; browsers and privacy tools can alter available signals. Report estimated uniques alongside total human clicks and the method’s limitations.
Worked example
Separate human, bot, speculative and blocked requests before interpretation. Limit access to account-owned reports, use aggregate views where possible, avoid placing personal data in URLs, and define a retention period appropriate to the campaign and applicable obligations.
Measure the right outcome
Redirect data explains delivery. Destination analytics explains page loads and downstream events. Consent choices, ad blockers, network failure and classification rules create expected differences, so reconciliation should compare definitions rather than force identical totals.
Troubleshooting checklist
- Unexpected unique count: inspect network and device changes.
- Totals disagree: compare funnel stages and filters.
- Sensitive value appears in a URL: remove it at the source and rotate it if needed.
Product limits and responsible use
Analytics is not identity verification, consent, authorization or proof of a sale. Teams remain responsible for their destination tracking, notices, legal basis and data-handling decisions; this methodology is product guidance, not legal advice.
