Example data

All people, links, events, and metrics shown here are deterministic example data.

Control when a link becomes active, when it expires, how many human clicks it accepts, and whether redirects stay editable or become permanent. Smart links combine routing controls behind one stable URL so each request can reach a more relevant destination. Rule order matters, and every link should retain a default destination for requests that match no condition.

  • Scheduled activation and automatic expiration
  • Human-click limits enforced at redirect time
  • Choose flexible 302 or permanent 301 redirects

What this feature does

One short link with rules for timing, limits, redirects, and access.

Control when a link becomes active, when it expires, how many human clicks it accepts, and whether redirects stay editable or become permanent. Smart links combine routing controls behind one stable URL so each request can reach a more relevant destination. Rule order matters, and every link should retain a default destination for requests that match no condition.

Use this capability when you need more control than a basic short URL provides.

Implementation and operating details

The workflow stays attached to the short link, so you can manage the destination and its rules without replacing the URL already in circulation.

  • Scheduled activation and automatic expiration
  • Human-click limits enforced at redirect time
  • Choose flexible 302 or permanent 301 redirects

How it works

01

Create or edit a link

Open the link controls and expand the access and behavior settings.

02

Define the rules

Choose activation and expiration times, a human-click cap, and the redirect type.

03

Share one durable URL

The redirect service enforces every rule before sending a visitor to the destination.

Operational guide

How DrutoLink processes it

DrutoLink resolves link status and schedule first, then applies geographic rules, the human-click cap, password access, device or experiment routing, and finally the configured UTM values.

Understand the signals, processing order, fallback, and checks that matter before you rely on this capability.

Required inputs and signals

Configuration input
Create one short link and add ordered rules for location, device, time, or other supported conditions.
Signals and connected controls
Geo and device targeting, A/B tests, campaigns, passwords, and analytics

Decision, fallback, and common mistakes

Keep a valid default destination. Expiry protects the short redirect, not a destination URL that somebody already knows, and a 301 may be cached by clients.

This capability is available now. Results still depend on visitor signals, destination availability, campaign setup, and the quality of the traffic being measured.

Practical setup checklist

  1. 01 Create or edit a link. Open the link controls and expand the access and behavior settings.
  2. 02 Define the rules. Choose activation and expiration times, a human-click cap, and the redirect type.
  3. 03 Share one durable URL. The redirect service enforces every rule before sending a visitor to the destination.

Why teams use it

Launch campaign links at an exact time
Stop limited offers automatically
Cap access without manually disabling a link
Keep tracked destinations editable with 302 redirects
Test each rule and fallback before publishing, then review destination-level analytics to confirm traffic follows the intended path.

Measurement and reporting

Review click activity and the relevant link, campaign, audience, or variant breakdowns in DrutoLink analytics. Use consistent UTM parameters when results must also be reconciled with destination-side analytics.

What you can evaluate

Launch campaign links at an exact time · Stop limited offers automatically · Cap access without manually disabling a link

How to interpret results

A redirect click confirms that the link served a destination. It does not by itself prove a signup, purchase, or qualified visit. Compare the same date range and traffic definition before making a decision.

Current status and limitations

Available

This capability is available now. Results still depend on visitor signals, destination availability, campaign setup, and the quality of the traffic being measured.

Important boundary

Use the default destination and documented fallback behavior for cases where a rule cannot be evaluated. Test important links from representative devices and networks before broad distribution.

Can a short link activate automatically? Yes. Set an activation date and time; visitors see an unavailable-link page until the schedule begins.

Best use cases

Practical examples

These are common situations where the capability can reduce manual link changes or make reporting easier to understand.

  • 01 Timed product launches and embargoed announcements
  • 02 Limited-seat registrations and download links
  • 03 Temporary partner offers and event campaigns
  • 04 Use one product link across countries, devices, partner placements, and campaign phases without replacing the URL already in circulation.

Is this the right fit?

Choose this feature when

You need one controlled short URL, a repeatable operating workflow, and reporting that stays connected to the link. Launch campaign links at an exact time

Use another approach when

Your requirement depends on a capability marked partial or planned, requires identity-level certainty, or needs conversion attribution that must be measured in the destination product.

Frequently asked questions

Can a short link activate automatically?

Yes. Set an activation date and time; visitors see an unavailable-link page until the schedule begins.

What happens when the click limit is reached?

The link stops redirecting as soon as the configured human-click limit is reached. Prefetches and speculative requests are not counted as real clicks.

Should I use a 301 or 302 redirect?

Use 302 for editable, measured links. Use 301 only when the destination is truly permanent because browsers may cache it.
